Windows Overlay Icons Adds Application Icons to Windows Overview in GNOME Shell Activities Menu

Windows Overlay Icons is a gnome shell extension that adds application icons to the windows overview displayed in the Activities menu of GNOME Shell in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.

activities_menuWindows Overlay Icons displays an application icon for each running window  in the Activities menu overview. You can easily identify the running windows with the help of application icons when opening the Gnome Shell. To install Windows Overlay Icons in GNOME shell in Ubuntu 11.10 , run the following commands in the terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gnome3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions-windowsoverlay-icons

Once installed, press Alt + F2 and enter r . Or, you can simply log out and log back in.

After that , launch Gnome Tweak Tool. In the left panel of the main window of Gnome Tweak Tool, click on Shell Extensions and in the right panel, turn on WindowOverlay Icons Extension to enable it.

Once the extension is enabled, open the Activities menu in Gnome Shell. You can see the application icons added to the overview of running Windows in the Gnome Shell Activities menu.
