How To Configure Nautilus To Use Location Entry Instead of Pathbar in Ubuntu 11.10
This tutorial will teach you how to configure Nautilus browser windows to use textual input entry for the location toolbar (i.e. location entry) instead of pathbar in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot by using dconf-editor.
At first, you have to install dconf-editor by running the following commands in the terminal.
sudo apt-get install dconf-tools
Once the dconf – editor is installed, launch it from the Unity Dash. Then, in the left panel of the Configuration Editor dialog, click on org –> gnome –> nautilus –> preferences .
In the right panel of the dialog, tick the Value box for always-use-location-entry as shown below.

Once the nautilus is configured, open the nautilus file browser window and observe the location toolbar. You can see that location entry has been used in place of the pathbar by the nautilus. Now, you will see textual input entry of every location you open in nautilus file browser as shown below.

In this way , you can configure nautilus to use location entry instead of pathbar in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.
